Life cycle assessment
Environmental sustainability is defined as responsible interaction with the environment to avoid depletion or degradation of natural resources and allow for long-term environmental quality.
Life cycle assessment or LCA is a methodology for assessing environmental impacts associated with all the stages of the life cycle of a commercial product, process, or service. Sustainability improves the quality of our lives, protects our ecosystem and preserves natural resources.
A product carbon footprint is a measure of the direct and indirect greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with all activities in the product’s life cycle.
Several frameworks for LCA have been developed, each distinguished by the desired goal, certification or prescribed methodology. Established ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards for the LCA framework provide the baseline for most requirements and are internationally recognize.
We use various third party softwares and tools to create the models and generate the footprint and reports. Tools include Gabi, Simapro and other softwares available in the market.
There are four steps of LCA:
- Goal definition and scope
- Life-cycle inventory
- Impact analysis
- Improvement analysis
